Sexual Health & Venereology in Bengaluru

Most people don't know this

In India, a dermatologist is also a venereologist.

The qualification is MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology — three specialities in one degree. Sexually transmitted infections, genital skin conditions and sexual health are formally part of the training, examined alongside skin.

So the doctor you would see for a rash is the same doctor trained to handle this. There is no separate referral, no explaining yourself twice, and no reason to go anywhere else first.

Some things are difficult to bring up, so people don’t. They search instead, worry for weeks, and arrive far later than they should have.

You can say it plainly here. Nothing you describe will be new to us, and nothing leaves this room.

Confidential screening and testing

Whether you have symptoms, a specific worry, or simply want to know where you stand, testing is straightforward and entirely private.

Screening for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, herpes and HPV — arranged discreetly, explained clearly, and treated without judgement. Partner guidance where you want it.

Many people come with no symptoms at all, before a marriage or a new relationship. That is a sensible reason to visit, not an awkward one.

Symptoms worth seeing someone about

An ulcer or sore. A discharge. Burning or discomfort. Growths, warts or bumps. Persistent itching. Rashes or colour change on genital skin.

Some of these are infections. A great many are not — and that distinction is the single most common piece of relief we offer.

Not everything down there is an infection

Genital skin is skin, and it develops the same conditions as skin anywhere else. Eczema, psoriasis, fungal infection, lichen sclerosus, lichen planus, vitiligo, and simple irritation from soaps, hair removal or friction.

These are frequently mistaken for sexually transmitted infection and treated repeatedly with the wrong thing. Being examined by someone trained in both dermatology and venereology usually settles the question quickly.

We also see recurrent thrush, balanitis, pigmentation change, discomfort during intimacy, and mucosal conditions affecting the mouth and genital skin.

Sexual wellness

Beyond infection and disease, concerns about intimacy, function and confidence are treated here as ordinary medical matters, in the same private, unhurried way as everything else.
